Concrete has the property to handle compressive stress well, but is hardly able to absorb tensile stress. In order to process this tensile stress, reinforcing steel is used in the concrete.
The adhesion of rebar to concrete is very good, especially due to the chemical composition, mechanical properties (ribbed) and the quality of cutting, bending and assembly. This makes efficient and sustainable use of materials.
A clever structural design ultimately determines how much material is used and the speed of the assembly on the construction site or prefabrication.
