Free, but not effortless: How much work goes into your 3D model?

23-09-2024 | ME de Jong

The 3D model (worth at least €80) is provided free of charge. You'll receive it along with the quote, even if you're not yet a customer. This might make it seem like we have a machine at our disposal, one that processes 2D drawings and churns out 3D models.

Nothing could be further from the truth. We’re happy to explain our process here. Our 'machines' are named Lukas, Gena, Sergey, and Arie. That's a team of modellers working together like a well-oiled machine. And they need their hours to develop these 3D models.

From 2D drawing to 3D model, what’s required?

Step 1: Receiving and checking 2D drawings

The process begins when we receive your 2D drawings. Our first task is to check if all the necessary information is complete and if the construction drawings and reinforcement drawings match.

Sometimes, that’s not the case, and we need to make an interpretation. But don't worry, we immediately get to work on a solution so that your project doesn’t experience any delays.

Step 2: Developing the 3D model

Once all the information is available, we begin setting up the project. We create a file structure, define a project reference, and lay out the foundation dimensions accurately.

Next, we develop the required reinforcing steel step by step, in the order of construction: from foundation and floor to the connection between foundation and floor, walls, upper floors, and more.

This is always done with an eye for detail and precision. Our modellers follow the four-eyes principle; a colleague reviews the model to identify any errors or improvements. After potential corrections, we export the 3D model and fill the shopping cart with all the necessary products. We generate 2D drawings of the products, and the files are uploaded. Finally, a last check is made to ensure everything matches the parts list.

Step 3: Quotation and further communication

All this information together forms the quote. This goes to the sales colleague, who presents it to the customer. Often, feedback follows after the quote, such as requests for adjustments. This can be the case, for example, if newer drawings become available or if we had to make an interpretation due to incomplete input.

And occasionally, we get a follow-up call: “I've given it some more thought… and I have a few more changes.”

The strength of our team

Our team of modellers works with great dedication on each project, spending the necessary hours to create precise and usable 3D models. And indeed, developing a 3D model requires many hours.

Your role: Good input, better results.

To get the most out of your 3D model, it’s important to provide quality input. You can do this by adhering to our submission specifications and recognizing the craftsmanship of our team. Behind every model is an expert ensuring your project starts with a solid foundation.

We’re ready to assist you. With great pleasure.
